The Historic Stage Lighting Collective (HSLC) is a UK-based heritage organisation dedicated to the preservation, restoration, documentation, and live demonstration of historic stage lighting and associated technologies.

Through its growing collection, partnerships, research, and public facing activity, HSLC helps preserve not only historic equipment, but also the knowledge, techniques, and working practices needed to understand and operate it.

A central part of HSLC’s work is demonstration. Where appropriate, historic equipment is not simply kept — it is explored and operated in context. This hands-on approach helps retain the practical knowledge and technical understanding that can otherwise be lost.

HSLC works in collaboration with organisations and individuals across the theatre and heritage sector, including ongoing partnership with the Backstage Heritage Collection (BHC), supporting both the documentation and physical stewardship of historic lighting.
